Additional Book Details
This ebook is a supplement to The Mechanical Design Process 6th edition (MDP6) adding material on the Scrum framework customized for hardware design. All mechanical design process texts including MDP6 are based on the waterfall, a serial design methodology. While it is absolutely essential for hardware systems to be planned and be sequential from needs, to concepts, to product, to manufacturing; real-world uncertainty forces much non-sequential effort that cannot be ignored. Scrum well fits into the serial process allowing planning in the small to manage uncertainty and change. It also fosters collaboration, communication and product design quality.
This book presents the thirteen Scrum activities needed to design hardware and weaves it with the best traditional mechanical design best practices. Further, it provides two case studies; one from industry Saab Aerospace's design of the Gripen E fighter; and one from academia a student team designing a prosthesis.
